Though he has fallen in the years, Phil Spector was a genius in producing hit music in the 60's. And that record was You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling by the Righteous Brothers. Back to Mono (1958-1969) is a great example of his work. Especially when he could convince DJs across America that a record that was stamped with a time of 3:05 was really close to 3:46 minutes. Impressive. The whole set is great.
I have the original Phil Spector's Greatest Hits on the Warner/Spector Label, as well as the Christmas "A little snow never hurt anyone" albums.This cheesy remake looses the flavor of what Phil Spector and his Wall of Sound was all about. One, and there are many, of the prime recordings missing is Sonny Charles and the Checkmates Ltd. singing "Black Pearl" which is still a classic today and one of the best songs on the album.It is too bad that a bunch of record mogals who obviously have no knowledge of the artist throw together great songs but without the heartbeat, and why they were recorded in the first place.Phil Spector put his life into his work, and this is not even a fair representation.
Even on a per-CD basis that is dirt cheap.and you get the excellent collectible book that comes with.Do yourself a favor. What more do you need to know.
Forget the complaints about the "mono" sound, etc. This box set is quite likely the best VALUE an oldies fan (and espeically Girl Groups / Wall of Sound fan )can find on-line.I could write on here forever; or just suggest that you pull the trigger on this set.
This set was personally remastered by perfectionist Phil Spector as a statement on his finest work. That is sour grapes.

Many consider this to be the best Christmas album ever recorded, as well as the best album Spector ever produced. In fact, he had a hand in writing most of the songs here.
Spector is arguably the greatest record producer of all time. In a way, he was to record making what Orson Welles was to movie making.
This box set is devoted to the career of Phil Spector (up until 1969). I should note that he didn't actually produce "Spanish Harlem", but he did help write it.
This collection contains four cds of evidence of his record producing genius. The first three discs include most of the singles that he produced during the period, plus selected other songs.
The fourth disc features the album A Christmas Gift for You in it's entirety. This is a great collection of wonderful music.
It isn't. The oversize booklet adds greatly to the enjoyment -- it contains the lyrics of all but the Christmas songs, two articles, many photos, and extensive information about the performers and personnel.And why is it in mono. It's great. The recordings, by the original artists, are of excellent quality. Because that's the way Spector wanted it. -- to get his famous Wall of Sound effect.Grab this one while it's still available.
